Neon Abyss 2 Agents: All Characters and Unlocks

Agents are the playable characters in Neon Abyss 2, and each one starts with a unique starting weapon plus a special Agent Item that grants a passive bonus — an extra weapon slot, a resource bonus, or something similarly build-defining. At least eight unlockable Agents are confirmed by the game's own achievement list, though not all of them have publicly documented unlock conditions. We have marked the gaps rather than guessing at them.

  • How many Agents: at least 8 unlockable, confirmed independently by the achievement list
  • How you switch: on the Agent screen near the dance floor in the Bar
  • Do tasks reset: no — Agent task progress is cumulative across all your runs
  • Starting Crystals: every Agent begins a run with 3
  • What differs: starting Hearts, starting resources and the Agent Item

How do you unlock a new Agent in Neon Abyss 2?

Agent unlocks are tasks, not purchases, and the critical detail is that they are cumulative across runs. Progress you make on a task carries over between attempts, so an unlock like "use 30 weapons" does not require 30 weapons in a single run — it is 30 weapons total, across as many runs as it takes.

You switch Agents and check task progress on the Agent screen near the dance floor in the Bar, or through the bar menu's Agent tab. Both routes show the same task list and the same progress counters, so there is no need to hunt for a specific menu to check whether you are close.

Read the Agent screen before you commit to a run

Because tasks are cumulative and never decay, checking the Agent screen tells you exactly how close you are to your next character. If you are one run away from an unlock, that run has a different optimal build than a free-rolling one.

Which Neon Abyss 2 Agents have published unlock conditions?

Six Agents had documented unlock conditions as of the source article, which was published on July 25, 2025 — roughly a week after Early Access began. Two more have since been confirmed by name through other channels.

Agent Unlock condition Source status
Nik Default — start a save Official default character
Elise Hatch 8 Hatchmon Published condition
Xuan Hold 10 Purple Wisps in one run Published condition
James Use 30 Weapons Published condition
Saya Reach Floor Five Published condition
Lucia Obtain and use 30 Curios Published condition
Mira Added in Fatal Carnival, Nov 27, 2025 Name confirmed, task not published
Cassie Added in Glimmer Heist, Jan 29, 2026 Name confirmed, task not published

Note the two different kinds of requirement in that table. Most are cumulative counters — use 30 Weapons, hatch 8 Hatchmon. Xuan's is the exception: holding 10 Purple Wisps has to happen within a single run, so it is the one published condition that cannot be chipped away at over multiple sessions.

What did the Early Access updates add?

Two Agents arrived after launch, and they are the reason a list written in July 2025 is out of date.

Mira joined in Fatal Carnival on November 27, 2025, whose notes list her as "New Agent: Mira, a reckless little maniac who thrives on danger". Cassie arrived with Glimmer Heist on January 29, 2026 — and she is the one of the two we have real mechanical detail on: she carries a ranged Glint gun that fires a lucky bullet every four shots, scaling with the keys you hold, plus a special ability called the Carousel Music Box that unlocks doors and chests in place of using keys. Both details come from Veewo's own update announcements: Fatal Carnival and Glimmer Heist.

Two gaps we are not filling

R-7 appears in the achievement list as an unlockable Agent, but we found no source describing his ability. Mira and Cassie's exact unlock tasks are likewise not published anywhere we could verify. Both are listed as TBD — verify them in game rather than trusting a guess.

The full 32-achievement list independently confirms the eight unlockable Agent names: Saya, Elise, James, Mira, Lucia, Cassie, R-7 and Xuan. That matters because it is official first-party data, not a community wiki — if a character has an Agent-unlock achievement, they are real.

What does every Agent start with?

The baseline is consistent: every Agent starts each run with 3 Crystals. What is not consistent is everything else. Starting Hearts differ between Agents, and so do starting resources, which is why a character's opening minute of a run can feel different even with an identical item pool.

The bigger difference is the Agent Item, a passive bonus unique to each character. The published examples run from an extra weapon slot to a resource bonus, and in Elise's case the Agent Item is Plush Gloves, which grants her the Hatchmon companion Kiddy. Each Agent also has a unique starting Weapon, so the character you pick determines both your opening damage profile and your passive.

The Faith system pushes this further — several Faiths have a recommended Agent attached to them, so your unlock order and your build direction are not entirely independent choices. The Faith system guide covers that mapping in full.
