The Neon Abyss 2 Faith system explained: philosophy temples, the Candle Jar that fills the meter, the Purity Sigil artifact, and carrying Faith between floors.
Neon Abyss 2 Faith System: Temples, Shops and Boons
Faith is the headline new mechanic in Neon Abyss 2 — a turn-the-tides resource that you accumulate during a run and then spend to bend the rules of that run. You can spend it in a stocked shop, on recruiting more Hatchmon, or on a gamble. It evolved from the Wisdom versus Violence system of the original Neon Abyss, and the developers have named it as one of the three things the sequel had to get right.
"Three things had to be nailed: multiplayer, increased weapon/item variety, and our Faith System." — Creative Director, in a Game Rant interview. Veewo's own framing in the press kit calls it the mechanic that lets you turn the tides.

- What it is: a spendable run resource for turning the tide of an attempt
- Spend it on: a stocked shop, recruiting more Hatchmon, or a gamble
- Temples: each is tied to a philosophy and offers a themed boon
- How you fill it: the Candle Jar, plus a pedestal you can carry between floors
- Which artifacts scale with it: the Purity Sigil, which gains a projectile at full Faith
What is the Faith system in Neon Abyss 2?
Think of Faith as a run-scoped currency with a deliberately wide set of exits. The official framing is that it lets you turn the tides; the practical framing is that it is the resource that lets you buy your way out of a bad floor instead of restarting.
Three things make it more than a single-purpose meter. First, it is multi-use — shop, pets and gamble all compete for the same pool, so every spend is a real opportunity cost. Second, it is portable across floors, which turns it into a run-planning resource rather than a per-room one. Third, it interacts with other systems: it is both a resource you spend and a stat other items scale against.
Faith also arrives with its own persistent layer, the Fate Card system, which sits on top of the in-run meter. Fate Cards are unlocked permanently and grant run-starting effects, several of which are Faith-specific.
Which temples are tied to which Faith?
Temples are the in-run Faith sinks, and each is bound to a philosophy rather than being a generic shrine. Two are documented in detail:
- Temple of Consumerism — grants a Loan
- Temple of Artisanism — nearly maxes Faith from a single Vaporized Weapon, and grants a free Weapon
The Artisanism temple is the standout of the two. Turning one weapon into a near-full Faith bar is an enormous tempo swing, and getting a free Weapon on top of it means the temple pays out twice — once in currency, once in power. If you are running Artisanism, that temple is the single highest-value stop in the game.
The named Faiths each carry a recommended Agent, which is how the Faith system and the character roster are wired together:
| Faith | Recommended Agent |
|---|---|
| Consumerism, Fortunism | Nik |
| Agapeism | Elise |
| Umbrism | Xuan |
| Artisanism | James, Saya |
| Thesaurism, Consumerism | Lucia |
That pairing is not cosmetic. Because the Faith you favour shapes your temple options and the recommended Agent shapes your opening, choosing a Faith early is closer to committing to a build than picking a perk — see the agents page for what each character's passive actually does.
How do you fill the Faith meter?
The Candle Jar, a type of Hexjar, fills the Faith meter — documented in the Glimmer Heist update notes. That is the direct answer, and it makes Hexjars worth targeting specifically when you are running a Faith build rather than grabbing whatever drops.
Artifacts also scale off Faith, and the clearest example is the Purity Sigil, whose published effect reads: "Damage increases with Faith. At full Faith, gain +1 projectile." A flat damage increase that tightens as your meter fills, plus an extra projectile at the cap, is a strong reason to sequence a run around topping off rather than spending early.
There is also a pedestal you can pull from right before a boss fight, which lets you carry a partial Faith bar into the next floor. Mechanically that is a carry-over valve — the difference between entering a new floor broke and entering it with something in the bank.
With the Purity Sigil in your build, the extra projectile at full Faith is the payoff. Pulling the pedestal before a boss is the cleanest way to make sure you arrive with a full meter rather than gambling on the next floor's drops.
What can you buy with Faith?
Three published destinations: a stocked shop, recruiting more Hatchmon, and a gamble. The shop is the straightforward option, Hatchmon recruitment feeds the pet system, and the gamble is the high-variance one.
The Hatchmon route is the most interesting for progression because it feeds a character unlock. Elise requires hatching 8 Hatchmon, and the Adorable Companion Fate Card starts every run with 2 of them, while the Agapeism Faith in the Evolve Tree guarantees eggs hatch successfully. Spending Faith on recruitment is therefore a direct line to a new Agent — see the Hatchmon guide for Elise's full kit.
Several Fate Cards are also Faith-specific and grant run-starting effects:
- Full of Energy — start every run with two Shields
- Adorable Companion — start with two Hatchmon
- Fire Support — grants weapons
