Neon Abyss 2 Hatchmon Guide: Eggs, Hatching, Evolution

Hatchmon are Neon Abyss 2's companion creatures. The official line is that you "hatch and collect these cute creatures, then evolve them into powerful and unique allies" — they are not cosmetic, and one of them is hard-gated behind an Agent unlock. The important catch is that Veewo has never published a full Hatchmon roster, so this page explains the system and the confirmed mechanics rather than inventing a list of creatures.

  • What they are: collectible companions you hatch and then evolve into allies
  • Why they matter: hatching 8 of them unlocks the Agent Elise
  • Hatch insurance: the Agapeism Faith can guarantee eggs hatch successfully
  • Run start bonus: the Adorable Companion Fate Card begins runs with 2 Hatchmon
  • Full roster: not published by Veewo anywhere we could verify

What are Hatchmon in Neon Abyss 2?

Hatchmon are pets. You find eggs, you hatch them, and each one becomes a companion that fights alongside you, with an evolution stage that turns it into a stronger ally. In practice they slot into the same build-crafting loop as weapons and artifacts — more companions is more passive pressure and more synergy surface, which is why the items and synergies page treats them as part of the same economy rather than a separate feature.

They are also directly tied to two other systems. Faith is the resource you can spend on recruiting more Hatchmon, and the Agapeism Faith node in the Evolve Tree is specifically a hatch-guarantee. So there are three separate levers pulling you toward collecting them: a character unlock, a Faith spend option, and a Faith upgrade.

Refining the Hatchmon mechanics was an explicit community-feedback goal for the sequel, according to the Creative Director in a Game Rant interview. If you played the original and found the pet system underwhelming, that is a known problem the developers have named rather than one you have to argue for.

There is no published Hatchmon list

We looked for an official roster and there is not one. Veewo's own materials show the feature rather than enumerate it. We have deliberately not produced a table of creature names, because every name in such a table would be invented.

How do you hatch Hatchmon and unlock Elise?

Elise unlocks after you hatch 8 Hatchmon. That is a published unlock condition, and it is the single strongest reason to care about the pet system early — she is a free character gated behind ordinary play rather than behind a currency purchase or a DLC.

Elise's details are the best-documented in the game, which makes her the practical way to learn the system:

  • Agent Item — Plush Gloves: grants her a unique Hatchmon named Kiddy
  • Starting weapon — Warming: a Hatchmon-type weapon

The Warming weapon has an unusual scaling property. Every 5 shots it emits a random homing bullet with a unique effect, and — this is the part that matters — the more Hatchmon you have, the more empowered those shots become. So the weapon gets stronger as a direct function of your Hatchmon count. That is a concrete reason to keep hatching even after Elise is unlocked.

What does the Kiddy companion do for Elise?

Kiddy is Elise's personal Hatchmon, and it behaves differently from a normal companion in three specific ways:

  • It follows Elise always
  • It cannot be fused
  • It revives nearby unconscious Hatchmon, provided they are still awake

The revive behaviour is the standout. Kiddy is effectively a support passive that keeps your other companions in the fight, which matters most in exactly the situations where a companion would otherwise be knocked out — dense bullet patterns and boss phases.

The cannot-be-fused rule is a constraint rather than a weakness. Fusing appears to be a normal operation for the wider Hatchmon pool, and Kiddy opting out means Elise keeps a fixed, always-present companion rather than one that gets absorbed into a stronger fusion.

How can you guarantee a Hatchmon egg hatches?

Two ways, both of them real systems rather than luck alone.

The Agapeism Faith, found in the Evolve Tree, can guarantee that Hatchmon eggs hatch successfully. Agapeism is the Faith associated with Elise, and this node sits in her tree — so the hatch guarantee is reachable on the same Faith path that leads to the character whose unlock is built on hatching.

The Adorable Companion Fate Card starts every run with 2 Hatchmon, removing the early-game grind entirely. That card is visible on the Fate Card screen in-game, and it appears on our Faith system page among the other Faith-specific Fate Cards.

Pair the Fate Card with the Faith node

Because the Adorable Companion card seeds each run with 2 Hatchmon and Agapeism guarantees hatches, the fastest route to Elise is to run the card consistently while banking toward the Evolve Tree node.

Frequently Asked Questions

How many Hatchmon are in Neon Abyss 2? The full roster has not been published by Veewo. We have not listed creature names because any such list would be invented rather than sourced.

How do I unlock Elise in Neon Abyss 2? By hatching 8 Hatchmon. It is a cumulative task, so the eight do not need to come from a single run.

Can Kiddy be fused with other Hatchmon? No. Kiddy, Elise's personal Hatchmon from her Plush Gloves Agent Item, cannot be fused and follows her permanently.

What does Elise's Warming weapon do? Every 5 shots it fires a random homing bullet with a unique effect, and its shots become more empowered the more Hatchmon you have.
